| Polymer solutions
These support
fluids consist of a solution in water of a long chain of molecules of
low molecular weight. As a result of their net-like structure, the molecules
are able to keep small particles in suspension and thus display properties
similar to bentonite suspensions. The main advantages over bentonite suspensions
is that they are unaffected by cement and the separation of soil particles
from the suspension is much easier. However, there exists a variety of
polymer agents and their long-term properties are not yet fully understood.
