Drilling muds

A drilling mud is a fluid inserted into the borehole as a temporary support during the drilling process. The support of boreholes can be provided by:

  • water
  • bentonite suspension
  • polymer solution

During drilling, the level of drilling mud shall always be maintained above the natural water table in the ground and thereby providing constant support of the borehole.
