Upon completion
of the drilling/filling process the drilling tools, which are attached
to the bottom end of the kelly bar, are lifted out of the borehole, emptied
and returned into the borehole.
Augers are
generally used in dry conditions. These have the advantage of easy filling
and emptying. Drilling buckets are used for boreholes filled with water.
After the drilling/filling process, the bottom of the bucket is locked
by reverse rotation. The bucket is emptied by releasing the shovels at
the bottom.
As the volume
of excavation is primarily determined by the tool length and the winch
pull, drilling depths per lift of up to 3 times the pile diameter can
be achieved.
