My son is doing a science project on the weight bearing capacity of soil. He is only in 7th grade and most of the information we have found so far has been way to advanced for him to understand. He needs to know what tests are done to determine soil strength and a description of the test. Does water affect the results? What type of soil do geotechnical engineers like best? He has done basic backround research on soil types, silt, sand, clay, loam. He has a basic explanation of what a geotechincal engineer does. He is allowed to use an expert in the field as a resource so we were wondering if it would be at all possible for someone to contact us to help answer these questions or to put us on the right track to finding an expert in the field that would be able to help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My son is very interested in this subject but is starting to get a little frustrated because of how difficult it has been to locate the information.
