Experience to date has been to have shop drawing approval consideration of indicator pile design and of production pile design simultaneously. Recent requirement was for production pile design approval to be delayed until after indicator pile installation. The structural design of the pile was not changed during the subsequent submittal process but the project was delayed significantly.
Discussion as to whether the requirement is usual or unusual has some value to me in terms of assessing responsibility for the delay, so would appreciate related knowledge and/or experience.
