To know the strength and classification of soil, is CPT or SPT suitable to be used? As I know, CPT results will tell about the resistance of soil, the strength of soil and also the bearing capacity of soil. But if I wish to know the soil profile of each layers, the depth of each layers and also the depth before it reach the bed rock layer, is this test suitable? Or is there any other test for these purpose?
I have to install 3 soil moisture meters along a hillslope at site, each of them have 3 probes and their depths are 20, 40 and 80cm, respectively. Thus, there are totally 9 probes. It is to understand the flowpath profile of water after a storm. But before the installation, I think it is better to have a preliminary test, especially to know about the depth of bed rock and is there groundwater flowing below it? what is the depth of the groundwater layer? Is it deep enough so that all of the probes are above the groundwater table? Is all the probes within the unsaturated soil zones?
Sincerely wish to get some opinions from here. If CPT or SPT is not suitable for it, any other methods would be recommmended?
