  Dear sir,

I'd like to get some information about correlations between SPT 'N' value and classification of soils with respect of seismic hazard and potential of having liquefaction as a result of earthquake.

thanks

The SPT will alert you to a potential seismic problem: When the N-indices are in the loose range and your study of the field records (recovery, blows per each 6-inch series, etc.) persuade you that the numbers are reliable, then, you have sufficient reason to recommend the client to invest in a CPTu so that data representative for a numerical analysis can be obtained. The SPT has only qualitative value. This said in recognition that, with a liberal sprinkling of Faith and a good portion of experience, reliable seismic designs have resulted also from SPT data.
