Hi there,
I am a student studying civil engineering. I am trying to calculate the void ratios for a set of data taken from an oedometer test.
Everything i have come across so far includes paramaters that we have not been provided, eg base area.
The only data that has been provided is the loading, sample thickness and the water content and specific gravity after the test.
Any help, or links to relevant info would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Josh

Provided that with knowing “the loading” you know the compression of the sample from start to finish of the test, you can use the void ratio after the test to calculate the void ratio before the test. There is a simple freeware called UniPhase available for downloading at [www.unisoftLtd.com] which will make the calculations very easy for you. By the way, if you use the data to calculate the strain changes directly, you can express the compressibility of the soil by the Janbu method, which is much superior to the Cc/e0 method.
