Topic: Geotechnical design and analysis
Subject: Municipal solid waste geotechnical characteristics

Author: Scott Lockhart, PE 2000-01-27

I am interested in additional resources that discuss the geotechnical characteristics of municipal solid waste and construction/demolition debris. I am interested from the standpoint of post-closure development on landfills.

Insight into field investigation methods to assess geotechnical properties is appreciated as well. thanx

In the ISSMGE there exists since 1994 a technical committee (TC5), chaired by both Prof. Katzenbach and myself, dealing with a series of topics and well described terms of reference.
In the period 1994-1996 some work weas done by our department here in Ghent on the MSW characteristics- and was published in the TC5 general report I presented in the Osaka conference (ICEG II) in 1996.
Many more work was done on site here, for some of the landfills, characterising the MSW behaviour by means of SASW testing. In literature such as :
DFI Vienna -1998
Journal of Envir.Engineering Geophysics
-1999
and many conference proceedings of the ISSMGE,

you'll find our contributions to that topic.

Sincerely yours,
Prof.W.F. Van Impe
