Best is to measure it directly performing the static test with an Osterberg-cell. If you are analyzing data from a conventional head-down test with strain-gage instrumentation, you can obtain a good estimate of the residual load and the true resistance distribution employing the method of Dr. Fellenius. You can download two papers of his from his web site [www.Fellenius.net} called “238 True Distribution of Load in Piles.pdf” and “242 & 246 Load Distribution.pdf”. The method is put into a broader context in Dr. Fellenius’s text book, the “Red Book” also available for free downloading at the web site (called “271 The Red Book_Basics of Foundation Design.pdf”.
