I am a fresh graduate student of Civil Engg.I have been trying to understand so called "Stress Path", quite unsuccesfully for the last 3 months. What is the physical sense of this approach? Is not a simple Shear Stress-Normal Stress plot sufficient? What is a critical state line and Roscoe surface? Can anyone enlighten me, please? I tried readng Lambe & Whiteman..., Atkinson and Bransby etc... too complicated...

Draw Moore's circle and then use the crowns of the circle to plot the stress path.
