is vibaration isolation of foundation only for machine foundation or can we isolate seismic vibration also.
also can somebody enlighten me on the construction practice for vibration isolation for foundation.

  It is possible to isolate ground vibrations propagating in soil layers using open trenches. However, this method may not be practical for permanent installations.

A new method using gas-filled trenches has been used successfully on a number of projects, where builings were protected from traffic-induced vibrations.
