  hi,
i am a postgraduate from China University of mining and technology,China. My thesis is about the piles foundation disturbed by undergroud mining. In China, many collieries are mining under cities, so the piles foundation over coal mining should be studied. i think this piles are some like those subjected lateral soil movement, such as excavation and tunnelling induced. i don't know whether it is right or not. Can you tell me the solution?
Thanks!

There has been a good deal of work on this in Germany. There were several papers on this very issue published in the Proceedings of the International Conference on Ground Control in Mining, through University of West Virginia. You might contact Syd Peng in the mining engineering department. Also, I think that Chris Mark from NIOSH (formerly the U.S. Bureau of Mines) has done work on mine subsidence and coal mine seam intereractions.
Best,
Sandin
