I am a graduate civil engineer in the process of doing my chartership in civil engineering. I am currently working for a temporary works company in the UK. I have been asked to have a look into the driveability of sheet piles. I was wondering if anyone had done any previous research in this area or had any references I could look into. Basically I am just looking for any performance data of various sizes of sheets into various soil types.
Well, I do not have any specific data on studies carried out on the driveability of sheet piles. However, a useful guide by CIRIA (Design and Construction of Sheet Piled Cofferdams) is available in which guide for the selection of sheet pile size to suit driving conditions base on SPT 'N' value (granular soils) or consistency (clays) are provided.
