Does any one know if directional drilling has be used to obtain rock cores and soil samples for geotechnical engineering purposes?
Also is there a subcontract drilling company who performes these services.
I am considering using directional drilling to explore the route of a tunnel, where the surface is not available for vertical soil borings.
Thanks Tom

Deep directional drilling has been used for the investigations for the new alpine base tunnels in Europe. This was covered by a lecture at the Geol Soc of London (Glossop Lecture) last autumn by a professor in rock mechanics from Athens University (can't remember the name).
