Hi,
Would anybody know how to compact a few samples of the same dry sand to the same degree of density or void ratio without using any mechanical vibrating devices, ie. using simple methods like hammering with a procter or something? any suggestions?

Probably misunderstood your posting - thought you had a proposal to make.. Will come back with a description of the method of tamping that has been used in Sweden with success.
